Brotogeris tirica is endemic to the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil (from Pernambuco to Rio Grande do Sul). It occurs in tropical and subtropical moist forests in lowlands and foothills, low montane forest, second growth, and also green spaces in cities, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Curitiba; up to 1,200 m. The plumage is green with yellowish tones; the primaries are blue-violet, and the rectrices are bluish-green. Total length 21-23 cm; weight 63 g. This species nests in September-December, in tree cavities, arboreal termitaries, natural or man-made niches, and behind palm leaf sheaths. The clutch consists of 4 eggs; incubation ca. 26 days; the young fledge at ca. 5 weeks. Plain Parakeets feed on fruits, nuts, seeds, and nectar; readily attends bird feeders.
